Rimac Nevera: A Species Born to Outperform

The Rimac Automobili, a name that never goes unheard among hypercar and EV enthusiasts alike has featured the Nevera, the latest addition to their garage. Rightly named after Nevera, the fierce storm that blusters past the Mediterranean coastline, this beast is no different in virtue from its source of inspiration.

Built entirely out of carbonfibre upon a monocoque platform, the vehicle promises a sturdy and light-weight body, bringing down significantly the power-to-weight ratio of the vehicle facilitating top-notch performance and superior safety. With an all-electric powertrain churning out a whopping 1,914 HP of power and a 2,340 NM of torque, the car is capable of reaching an astronomical speed of up to 412 km/h, making it the fastest EV on planet.

The motors are also individually divided across four of its wheels, evenly regulating torque and providing unprecedented control and agility. Above all, they are also lightning quick with the vehicle capable of accelerating itself from 0-100 km/h and 0-300 km/h in an astoundingly brief 1.81 and 9.22 seconds respectively. This also makes it the quickest EV in market. Additionally, a solid 120 kWh battery aids to a superior battery backup. Powered by lightning and speeding at the pace of wind, the car connects itself to nature, giving a great emphasis on sustainability and sustainable luxury. The vehicle’s design is exquisitely influenced by a necktie, an integral part of the Croatian tradition emphasizing on both tradition and aerodynamics.

The CEO Mate Rimac had made auto enthusiasts awestruck a long time back in 2009 when he modified his old BMW E30 with an electric motor, giving rise to a peppy e-M3. Above all, he had always wanted to make EVs more powerful and fun to drive as the ICE cars considering a possible defunction of ICE engines in the upcoming future, says Rimac in an interview with “Cars and Culture with Jason”.

More than a decade down the lane, Rimac had also went on to join hands with Bugatti proposing the idea of a Bugatti Rimac. This joint venture of the two automotive giants, both led by Rimac himself happened post his acquisition of the latter from Volkswagen in July 2021.

However, the internet is shrouded with speculations on what the successor of the Chiron would look like, a fully electric Rimac engine, a mid-mounted partially electric engine or a full-fledged V16 ICE powertrain. Adding fuel to the fire, Mate Rimac uploaded a sneak peak of his car on his Instagram handle where he ends the video with ‘almost’ revealing the car shrouded in a charcoal veil.

The Croatian automotive opulence accommodates a totally in-house production of all of its components, right from their sophisticated and efficient powertrains to their minutest of bytes and bolts. Closely inspired from Nikola Tesla and his contributions to the world of electric power, Mate Rimac aims to create more numbers of such uber-luxurious and ultra-futuristic electric hypercars that will ‘bend physics’. Limited to just 150 units and priced anywhere between 2 and 3 million USD, only time can tell the legacy the opulent carriage is about to showcase.
