Balmoral Castle Opens Its Gates to the Public

Balmoral Castle, under British royal ownership since its acquisition by Prince Albert for Queen Victoria in 1852, is set to open its doors to the public for the first time. This historic event marks a significant departure from its traditionally private status.

Visitors will have the opportunity to embark on guided tours through several of the castle’s exquisite rooms, providing a glimpse into its rich history spanning back to its inception. From its humble beginnings to its present-day use by members of the Royal Family, guests will traverse through time, learning about the castle’s significance and its cherished place as a Highland retreat.

In addition to exploring the interior, visitors will have access to the surrounding grounds, gardens, and exhibitions. Notable highlights include viewing King Charles’s watercolor paintings depicting scenes from Balmoral, Highgrove, and Sandringham.

Balmoral holds a special significance for the Royal Family, particularly Queen Elizabeth, who favored it as a residence. Prince Harry, in his memoir, reminisces about the distinct features of the castle, evoking memories of its grandeur and unique charm.

Tickets for the tours, priced at £100 (£150 for those opting for afternoon tea), are available for purchase in advance on the official website. Tours will run from July 1 to August 4, 2024, with limited availability to ensure an intimate experience for visitors.
